I’m the kind of person who finds it hard to switch off. Sitting in front of the TV at the end of the day isn’t something I do, and reading is generally how I start my day, followed by a workout. So last year when I was getting particularly restless and feeling the need to learn something new (again), I decided to have a go at Zentangle. There’s never really a grey area when I get my mind set on something; I either give it my all or I give it up completely. There’s never a half-arsed attempt; I’m either in or I’m out and that’s pretty much how I am with everything.

Like most people, my little nuggets of inspiration or full on a-ha moments, always appear when I’m doing something completely unrelated to the a-ha moment I’ve been waiting for. Mine usually make an appearance during one of the following situations; when I’m working out, when I’m in the shower or when I’m out walking. As if by magic, like a fairy waving a wand, this is how my ideas wash over me.

“The more you recognize and express gratitude for the things you have, the more things you will have to express gratitude for”. Zig Ziglar

Sometimes we get so hung up on the bigger picture and where we want to be, that we forget to celebrate the small wins. We’re quick to berate ourselves when things go wrong or don’t go exactly to plan, but we don’t take the time to acknowledge all the little things that fall into place along the way.

It’s always nice to work on new wrapping paper designs, but even more so when it’s for a special occasion. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I decided it was about time to add a couple of newbies into the mix for all those loved up folk out there.

As 2015 fades away into the distance, I find myself looking back over the year and feeling a little nostalgic. Like most business owners, I find it good to glance backwards and see what worked, what didn’t, what I could have done better/differently and also see how far I’ve come.

I opened The Last Twinkie in 2013, but as my virtual shelves lay empty for the best part of a year, I don’t count that as the beginning. For me, my business really started towards the end of 2014 and even though The Last Twinkie isn’t anywhere near being a full time business venture (yet), so far, I’m happy with my progress. Having run my own photography business for the last 5 years, I know how difficult it can be starting out and how the first year especially can be very much trial and error. I know that it’s only early days, and that I still have a long way to go, but I’m pretty excited about the year ahead and putting new ideas into action.
